Tourist tax for Alojamento Local

Rates checked against the municipal regulations on 10 October 2026.

There's no national tourist tax (taxa turística). Each câmara decides whether to charge one and writes its own rules: how much per night, whether there's a high and low season, up to what age children go free, and after how many nights it stops. So “how much is the tourist tax?” always gets the same answer: it depends where your AL is.

We read the regulations of 45 municípios and put them in one table. Click a município's name to open its regulation.

How is it worked out?

In every município in the table, it's charged per guest per night, up to a maximum number of nights per stay. Guests under the exemption age don't pay.

A round-number example: if your município charges €2.00 a night for up to 7 nights, a couple staying 10 nights pays 2 × 7 × €2.00 = €28.00. The last three nights don't count.

In the regulations we read, the nightly rate runs from €1.00 to €4.00. Some municípios charge less in low season.

Some things the table can't show. Regulations can have other exemptions, and each one says how and when you hand over what you collected. For those, open your município's regulation.

My município isn't listed

The table only has the municípios whose regulation we've read. Others may charge a tourist tax too, and the list keeps changing. If yours isn't here, search for “taxa turística” on your câmara's website.
